LAHORE: The Punjab Local Government Department has requested Rs12.5 billion from the provincial government to facilitate the conduct of local government elections across the province.
According to sources in the Punjab Assembly, the department has formally sought the required funds to meet the expenses associated with organizing the elections. The request is expected to be presented before the Punjab Cabinet for approval.
Sources further revealed that the matter of allocating funds for the local government elections will be included in the agenda of the provincial cabinet meeting, where ministers are expected to review and decide on the proposal.
The Punjab Assembly sources also confirmed that an important meeting of the provincial cabinet has been convened today. Besides the funding request for local government elections, the cabinet is expected to deliberate on several other significant agenda items.
If approved, the allocation of Rs12.5 billion will pave the way for the administrative and logistical preparations necessary for holding the long-awaited local government elections in Punjab.
