Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have expressed agreement on the creation of new provinces, with lawmakers from both parties supporting the idea of administrative restructuring.
Speaking on Geo News’ program, Federal Minister for Defence Production Raza Hayat Harraj said that new provinces would definitely be created in the future. He stated that neither Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif nor Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was leaving their positions, adding that the establishment of new provinces would be carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
PTI Chief Whip Malik Aamir Dogar also expressed support for the creation of new provinces, saying that he agreed with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on the need for administrative divisions. He said there was broad agreement on the creation of a South Punjab province and that it should be the first new province established.
Dogar added that new provinces should be created on the basis of population and administrative requirements, reiterating that South Punjab should be given priority in the process.
The issue of creating new provinces has remained a subject of political debate in Pakistan for years, with supporters arguing that smaller administrative units could improve governance, while constitutional and political challenges remain a key factor in the process.
