Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that the system has come to a complete standstill for them and it appears that 2026 will also be a year of punishments. He urged those in power to find a way to improve the situation.

Speaking to the media at the Dahgal checkpoint outside Adiala Jail, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said that they come there every Tuesday, wait until the scheduled time, and then return without meeting.

Barrister Gohar said that in begging for meetings, not only outsiders but even their own people have played a role. He added that no matter how intense a movement may be, negotiations have no alternative. However, negotiations are not progressing in a manner demanded by the circumstances. He appealed to those in power to show some compassion for the country.

The PTI chairman reiterated that the system has become stagnant for them; otherwise, they would not be standing there every day. He said they are entering a new year, but it seems that 2026 will also be a year marked by punishments. He again urged those in power to find a solution so that conditions can improve.

Barrister Gohar said that 16 of their members of parliament, including the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, have been sentenced. He remarked that while a ceasefire has been reached with external enemies, internal tensions have still not ended.

He stated that PTI has never called off negotiations and that he has not received any instructions from the party founder saying that talks should end. However, he said the party founder has issued instructions regarding a street movement, adding that protests are their constitutional right.

Barrister Gohar further said that there was no party consultation regarding Sohail Afridi’s visit to Lahore and that it was done on the instructions of the party founder. He added that the party has been instructed that the authority for negotiations lies with Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas.

He also questioned why meetings, which used to take place earlier, were suddenly being obstructed, and demanded that at the very least, permission should be granted for Bushra Bibi to meet.
