Sukkur: Municipal Commissioner Khalid Hussain Jatoi conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing development projects and municipal infrastructure across Sukkur under the directions of Sindh Government Spokesperson and Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh. The visit focused on reviewing the progress of development schemes, assessing drainage arrangements ahead of the monsoon season, and ensuring that civic projects are completed on schedule and according to approved standards.
The inspection was attended by Executive Engineer (XEN) Nauman Kalhoro, Assistant Executive Engineers (AENs) Hadi Bux Baloch and Suhail Mahar, Media Coordinator Danish Ahmed, and Inspector Adnan Memon, along with other municipal officials.
The tour began at the under-construction stadium in New Pind Pathan Colony, where the Municipal Commissioner inspected ongoing civil works, including the construction of the pavilion and other key facilities. Engineers and contractors briefed him on the project’s current status, construction quality, and expected completion timeline.
Jatoi directed the engineering staff and contractors to maintain high construction standards and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. He stressed that quality should not be compromised and instructed officials to monitor progress regularly to ensure timely completion.
During the visit to the stadium, the Municipal Commissioner also interacted with local sports enthusiasts and young athletes. He inquired about the facilities available to them and reaffirmed the municipal administration’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure across the city. He said every possible effort would be made to provide modern and quality recreational and sporting facilities for the youth of Sukkur.
The Municipal Commissioner later visited Water Works Phase III, where he reviewed ongoing development work and inspected the newly constructed Animal Holding Facility. The center has been established to temporarily house stray livestock captured from different parts of the city, helping improve traffic flow, public safety, and urban management.
Officials briefed the commissioner on the operational aspects of the facility, after which he instructed the concerned departments to ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, and effective management of the center. He emphasized that the facility should be operated efficiently to achieve its intended purpose and provide a sustainable solution to the issue of stray animals in the city.
Keeping in view the forecast of monsoon rains, Khalid Hussain Jatoi also carried out a detailed inspection of several major drainage pumping stations, including those at Qureshi Goth, Jail Garden, Shalimar, and other important locations.
During the inspections, he reviewed the operational status of drainage machinery, the performance of pumping equipment, current water levels, and emergency preparedness measures. Officials briefed him on the readiness of the drainage system and contingency plans to deal with heavy rainfall.
The Municipal Commissioner directed the relevant officers to ensure that all drainage pumps and machinery remain fully operational at all times. He instructed them to keep wastewater levels under control and maintain round-the-clock preparedness during the monsoon season so that any emergency situation could be addressed without delay.
He further emphasized that municipal staff should remain on high alert throughout the rainy season to ensure uninterrupted drainage operations and prevent urban flooding. Prompt response to complaints and immediate action in low-lying areas were identified as key priorities to minimize inconvenience to residents.
Speaking during the inspection, Khalid Hussain Jatoi said that, in accordance with the directions of Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, the Sukkur Municipal Corporation is committed to improving civic amenities, ensuring the timely completion of development projects, strengthening sports infrastructure, and maintaining an efficient drainage system during the monsoon season.
He instructed officers to closely monitor every ongoing development project, maintain transparency and quality in construction work, and prioritize public welfare at every stage. He said all departments must coordinate effectively to deliver better municipal services and complete projects according to approved schedules.
Reaffirming the municipal administration’s commitment, the commissioner said the Sukkur Municipal Corporation would continue fulfilling its responsibilities with professionalism and dedication. He added that ensuring timely completion of development schemes, maintaining effective drainage infrastructure, and providing safe, reliable, and quality municipal services would remain among the corporation’s top priorities for the benefit of Sukkur’s residents.
