Sukkur: Allegations of illegally installed dummy electricity meters have surfaced in several areas under SEPCO Sub-Division One, with claims that the practice is causing the power utility losses worth hundreds of thousands of rupees every month. The allegations have prompted residents and social organizations to call for an immediate and transparent investigation by senior SEPCO officials.
According to local sources, alleged dummy (bogus) electricity meters have been installed in areas including Ayub Gate, Takkar Mohalla, Gharibabad, and nearby localities. The sources claim that these meters are being used to facilitate unauthorized electricity consumption, resulting in significant financial losses to the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO).
The sources further alleged that a SEPCO Sub-Division One employee identified as Haroon Siyal and another individual known as “Chhotu” are allegedly involved in the operation. It is claimed that the two individuals collect substantial monthly payments from certain consumers in exchange for the illegal electricity connections. Residents have also alleged that consumers who question or complain about the suspected illegal activities are allegedly subjected to inflated electricity bills containing excessive units.
