South Waziristan, Pakistan: Prominent religious and social figure Mufti Juna Mir was killed in a blast in Rustam Bazaar in South Waziristan Lower on Monday, police confirmed.
According to DSP Asghar Ali Shah, unidentified individuals had allegedly planted explosive material on the lower floor of a building in Rustam Bazaar. The device exploded, fatally injuring Mufti Juna Mir, who was reportedly the target of the attack.
Police said officers reached the scene immediately after the explosion, secured the area, and collected forensic evidence. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the blast and identify those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and officials have not yet disclosed further details regarding the motive behind the incident.
According to local sources, Mufti Juna Mir was actively involved in efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. He regularly participated in National Peace Jirgas as a speaker and was known for supporting initiatives aimed at improving law and order in South Waziristan.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security in the area, where authorities continue to investigate the attack. Police said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
