Islamabad: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has called on his party to reject the results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections and consider boycotting the third phase of the electoral process, alleging that the elections were not conducted fairly.
Speaking on the issue, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accused the AJK Election Commission of operating under the influence of the rival political party. He said the Chief Election Commissioner was responsible for the alleged irregularities and claimed that an assembly formed under such circumstances would be unable to resolve the region’s problems.
“If the elections are not transparent, they will not be accepted,” he said, adding that, in his personal opinion, the PPP should reject the results and boycott the third phase of the elections. He clarified that the final decision would be made by the party’s central leadership.
PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari also criticized the electoral process, alleging that the AJK elections were non-transparent and rigged. He stated that the party would not accept the election results.
Former adviser Nadeem Afzal Chan expressed similar concerns, claiming that the elections resembled a “Form-47 style election” and questioning the credibility of the Azad Kashmir Election Commission.
Meanwhile, senior PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said the legitimacy of any government formed through such elections would remain questionable. He alleged that the electoral process had been taken away from the PPP and described the outcome as unacceptable.
