UMERKOT: Residents and social activists in Samaro have called for an investigation into the town’s rainwater drainage project, alleging irregularities and poor construction that they claim have rendered the scheme ineffective.
According to local residents, the drainage system constructed to remove rainwater has reportedly suffered structural damage, with a drainage channel allegedly collapsing and allowing rainwater to flow into a nearby natural watercourse instead of being properly discharged.
Residents further claimed that the pump house built under the project remains incomplete, alleging that water pumps and an electricity transformer have not yet been installed, preventing the drainage system from becoming operational.
They also alleged that substandard construction materials were used in the project and expressed concern that the pump house structure could be at risk of damage or collapse during heavy rainfall.
With forecasts predicting further intense rains, people living near the drainage channel say they are increasingly worried about the possibility of flooding and damage to homes and property.
Local social leaders criticized what they described as the lack of an effective response from the relevant authorities and urged the administration to take immediate notice of the situation.
They demanded a transparent investigation into the alleged corruption and construction irregularities, calling for those responsible to be held accountable if any wrongdoing is established.
