KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has clarified that all government schools across the province will continue academic activities six days a week, while the policy will not be mandatory for private educational institutions.

The clarification came after the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department recently issued a notification stating that both government and private schools would reopen from August 1, 2026, with classes to be held six days a week.

In a statement shared on his official social media platform, the education minister explained that the notification applies specifically to government schools.

“According to the School Education Department’s notification, all government schools will continue academic activities six days a week from August 1, 2026,” Syed Sardar Ali Shah said.

He further clarified that private schools are not required to follow the same weekly schedule.

Instead, private educational institutions will be free to determine their own working days and school timings in accordance with their internal policies and administrative decisions.

The clarification aims to remove confusion that arose following the earlier notification, which had been interpreted by some as applying equally to both public and private schools.

Under the revised understanding, government schools throughout Sindh will observe a six-day academic week, while private schools may continue operating according to their own approved schedules.

The Education Department has advised schools to ensure smooth implementation of the academic calendar and continue providing uninterrupted educational activities for students following the reopening of schools after the summer break.
