MOSCOW: At least three people were killed and 21 others injured after an explosion ripped through a restaurant in Moscow, the capital of Russia, according to foreign media reports.

The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, with several victims reported to be in critical condition.

According to media reports, the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly brought into the restaurant by a woman.

Reports said a security guard attempted to stop the woman from entering the restaurant, and the explosion occurred during the confrontation.

Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement posted on social media that the explosion took place at around 8:00 p.m. local time.

Following the incident, police and emergency responders rushed to the scene, while security forces sealed off roads leading to the restaurant and established a security cordon around the area.

Bomb disposal experts and forensic teams have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and identify those responsible.

Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the woman mentioned in media reports or disclosed a possible motive behind the incident.
