ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the Kashmir Joint Action Committee has responded to his letter regarding the proposed establishment of a Truth Commission, adding that resolving the ongoing crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir remains his top priority.
In a statement, Bilawal said he had received the committee’s response, which included its own proposal regarding the formation of the commission.
He emphasized that every loss of life is a national tragedy and said his immediate focus is on ending the current crisis, providing relief to affected people, and restoring normal life in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as quickly as possible.
“Every precious life lost is a national tragedy. My foremost priority is to bring the current crisis to an end, provide immediate relief to the public, and restore normalcy in Azad Jammu and Kashmir,” Bilawal said.
The PPP chairman welcomed the Joint Action Committee’s willingness to consider the proposed Truth Commission as a possible institutional mechanism for addressing the issues.
He noted that the proposed commission has also received endorsement from the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, describing it as a positive step toward finding a constitutional and institutional solution.
Bilawal further said he would carefully review the committee’s proposal before making any decisions.
He added that he would also consult with the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to explore the possibility of building consensus among all stakeholders.
According to Bilawal, the AJK Prime Minister will seek preliminary views from the federal government and other relevant parties to determine whether a mutually agreed framework can be developed for moving the proposal forward.
He stressed that dialogue and institutional cooperation are essential for resolving the ongoing situation and expressed hope that all concerned parties would work together in the broader public interest.
The proposed Truth Commission is intended to serve as a platform for examining issues related to the recent crisis and promoting transparency, accountability, and reconciliation through an agreed institutional process.
Bilawal reiterated that meaningful consultation among all stakeholders remains the best path toward achieving lasting peace and stability in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
