KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Nisar Khuhro has accused Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi of creating political controversy through his recent remarks, alleging that they were part of a deliberate attempt to destabilize the country’s political environment.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Khuhro said Naqvi first met with the President before making what he described as a controversial statement, claiming the sequence of events raised serious concerns.
“The Interior Minister first met the President and then made a controversial statement. Such remarks are an attempt to create unrest in the country. This is a conspiracy,” Khuhro said.
The PPP leader strongly opposed proposals related to the creation of new provinces, particularly any suggestion involving the division of Sindh.
He argued that calls for splitting Sindh would be rejected by the people of the province and warned that those promoting such ideas would face a strong public reaction.
“Those who talk about dividing Sindh will face the people’s response,” he said.
Khuhro also questioned proposals advocating the creation of a large number of new administrative units.
“Is there a plan to create 22 provinces and appoint 22 chief ministers?” he asked, criticizing what he described as unrealistic proposals.
Meanwhile, Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani also rejected the idea of creating new provinces in Sindh.
Speaking separately, Ghani said that if the people of Sindh and their elected representatives oppose the creation of new provinces, then no such administrative changes should be imposed on the province.
He added that if the Punjab Assembly has passed a resolution in favor of creating additional provinces, it reflects the wishes of the people of Punjab, and such matters should be decided according to the will of the respective province.
The statements come amid an ongoing political debate over administrative reforms and proposals regarding new provincial units in Pakistan. Supporters argue that additional provinces could improve governance and public service delivery, while opponents maintain that any such move must have constitutional backing and the consent of the people directly affected.
At the time of reporting, the federal government had not issued a formal response to the criticism made by PPP leaders regarding Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks.
