RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces killed five militants during an intelligence-based operation in Razmak, North Waziristan, while Major Hafiz Ehsan Elahi was killed during the exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted in the Razmak area of North Waziristan district following intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants.

The ISPR said security forces engaged the militants during the operation, resulting in the deaths of five militants. The statement described them as “Indian-sponsored Khawarij,” reflecting the military’s characterization.

During the intense exchange of fire, Major Hafiz Ehsan Elahi was killed while leading his troops.

The ISPR said the officer fought bravely while commanding the operation and was killed in the line of duty.

According to the military, weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. The statement added that those killed had allegedly been involved in attacks against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as in the killing of civilians.

A sanitization operation is expected to continue in the area to ensure that no other militants remain present, according to standard military procedures following such operations. The military reiterated its commitment to continuing counterterrorism operations across the country.
