BHIT SHAH: The concluding day of the 283rd Urs celebrations of the great Sufi saint and renowned Sindhi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA) was marked by a vibrant Sufi music gathering, drawing a large number of devotees, artists, and visitors from across Sindh and beyond.
The ceremony was attended by the Sindh Minister for Culture along with the Home Minister of Balochistan, who participated as a special guest. On behalf of the hosts, the visiting dignitary was warmly welcomed and presented with traditional Ajrak and a Sindhi cap as symbols of Sindhi hospitality and cultural heritage.
The annual Urs, organized by the Sindh Culture Department, was widely appreciated for its improved arrangements, including event management, stage organization, sound system, and overall facilities. Participants praised the department for successfully organizing one of Sindh’s most prominent cultural and spiritual festivals.
During the event, renowned folk singer Shaman Mirani was honored with the Shah Latif Raag Rang Best Artist Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Sindhi Sufi music.
While appreciating the arrangements, participants suggested that the music arena (pandal) should be expanded in future so that visitors can comfortably enjoy the performances.
Among those who attended the Urs were Ahmed Nawaz Noonari, leader of Haq Bahoo, Bashir Khan Jatoi, Nazakat Ali Fazlani (former Director General of Libraries), Ghulam Sarwar Sahar, Nazir Ahmed Sheikh, and Manzoor Hussain Kalhoro, along with other cultural enthusiasts who traveled from Hyderabad to Bhit Shah to participate in the celebrations.
The event continued until dawn despite intense summer heat, with stage secretaries efficiently conducting the proceedings. The high-quality sound system and professional camera coverage were also appreciated by attendees.
Due to the hot weather, drinking water was available for purchase throughout the venue, while a large number of young people remained present until the conclusion of the program. Many attendees were seen capturing photographs and videos on their mobile phones, while groups of youth enthusiastically danced to the performances of Sufi artists.
Throughout the evening, the venue echoed with slogans of “Jiye Latif” and “Jiye Latif Ji Boli”, reflecting the audience’s deep admiration for Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and the Sindhi language.
At the conclusion of the event, Bashir Khan Jatoi distributed traditional sweets, including raisins, mulberries, puffed grains, and mawa, among fellow participants to celebrate the successful completion of the Urs.
The annual Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai once again highlighted Sindh’s rich spiritual, literary, and cultural heritage, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds in a celebration of peace, harmony, and Sufi traditions.
