SUKKUR: A couple from the Baberloi Abro Stop area near Sukkur, who say they entered into a marriage of their own free will, appealed for justice and protection during a protest outside the Sukkur Press Club. They also called for the withdrawal of what they described as false criminal cases and sought the recovery of a woman and her three children, whom they allege are being held against their will.

The protesters, Marvi, daughter of Alhdayo Sheikh, and her husband Altaf, son of Bugan Sheikh, told journalists that they had legally solemnised their marriage four months ago through the Justice of the Peace Court in Khairpur.

According to the couple, following the marriage, Marvi’s father Alhdayo Sheikh and her brothers Zulfiqar and Ali, with the support of influential individuals and local landlords, allegedly began harassing them.

They claimed that a false criminal case had been registered against them at Khanpur Police Station in Shikarpur district. They further alleged that their guest, Ashiq Sheikh, had been arrested and implicated in fabricated cases.

The couple also alleged that Sahjan Sheikh, who they identified as Marvi’s sister and the wife of Ashiq Sheikh, was being unlawfully confined along with her three young children. They claimed that the family had also received death threats and feared for their safety.

Appealing to the authorities, the couple demanded that all cases they describe as false be withdrawn, that Sahjan Sheikh and her three children be recovered, and that they be provided with justice and security.

They warned that if no action was taken on their demands, they would stage a protest outside the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench and threatened to take their own lives. They said they would hold Marvi’s family and the Shikarpur police responsible if such an outcome occurred.

The allegations made by the couple have not been independently verified, and no response from the police or the individuals named in the allegations was immediately available.
