MIRPURKHAS: A couple who say they married by mutual consent and their family members have accused local police and the woman’s relatives of harassment, alleging that false cases have been registered against them. They made the claims while addressing journalists during a protest.
Residents of village Yar Muhammad Janjhi, including Farida Jarejo, her husband Asad Ali Jarejo, Mukhtiar Jarejo, and other family members, alleged that Farida’s relatives became enraged after the couple entered into a love marriage.
According to the protesters, Ahsan Jarejo, Ali Sher, Yousuf, Sajjad, and others allegedly colluded with Old Mirpur Police to register multiple false cases against Asad Jarejo and his relatives. They further claimed that two young members of their family had been arrested by the police.
The couple also alleged that they were facing threats to their lives and claimed that the woman’s relatives intended to kill them because of the marriage. They said they were living in fear and had been confined to their home due to security concerns.
The protesters further alleged that instead of providing them with protection, the local police were siding with influential individuals, leaving them without justice.
The couple and their family appealed to the relevant authorities to take notice of their allegations, investigate the registration of the alleged false cases, provide them with protection, and ensure justice.
The allegations made by the protesters could not be independently verified, and no response from the police or the individuals named in the allegations was immediately available.
