Islamabad, November 13, 2025:
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that Pakistan’s Field Marshal personally contacted Sri Lanka’s Defense Minister and Secretary to resolve their concerns and ensure that the Sri Lankan cricket team continued its Pakistan tour.
Speaking to the media at Parliament, Naqvi said that after reports of the Sri Lankan team’s possible return home, the government took immediate steps to address all their reservations. “The Sri Lankan players had genuine concerns regarding security. We held extensive discussions and gave them full assurances of their safety,” he said.
According to the Interior Minister, Pakistan’s Field Marshal directly reached out to Sri Lanka’s top defense officials, explaining the comprehensive security measures put in place by Pakistan’s law enforcement and military institutions. “He personally convinced them that the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and police had complete control over the situation,” Naqvi added.
He further stated that following the assurances, the Sri Lankan President himself spoke to his team, encouraging them to continue their participation. “The Sri Lankan team members are our state guests,” Naqvi emphasized. “They are being provided the highest level of security and official protocol, equivalent to that given to visiting heads of state.”
The minister reiterated that Pakistan is committed to maintaining its reputation as a safe and reliable host for international sports events. “We are proud that our security institutions acted swiftly and professionally,” he said, noting that the successful continuation of the Sri Lankan tour reflects the international community’s growing confidence in Pakistan’s security capabilities.
He concluded by saying that the collaboration between Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership played a key role in managing the situation. “It was a team effort — from the Prime Minister’s Office to the security forces on the ground — ensuring that sports diplomacy continues without disruption.”
