BADIN: A suspected drug dealer wanted in multiple criminal cases was killed during a police encounter in Badin district on Saturday, while two police constables sustained injuries during the exchange of fire, according to a police statement.

The incident occurred near Ali Bandar Road after the CIA Badin unit and Kadhan police acted on confidential information regarding the presence of the suspect, identified as Muharram Dil.

According to the police, CIA Badin In-charge Sub-Inspector Gul Hassan Laghari and SHO Kadhan Inspector Imtiaz Ali Thebo led a team to the location in an attempt to arrest the suspect. Police said that when officers signalled him to surrender, the suspect allegedly opened indiscriminate fire in an effort to evade arrest.

During the exchange of gunfire, Constable Ashiq Ali Bhambhro and Constable Saqib Ali Gadahi were injured. Both officers were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Following the incident, additional police personnel were dispatched to the scene on the instructions of SSP Badin Qamar Raza Jiskani. Police said the suspect was killed during the ensuing operation.

According to the initial police account, the deceased suspect was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, including the sale of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.” Police also claimed he was wanted in several serious criminal cases, including previous police encounters, theft, robbery, narcotics offences, and other crimes. Officials said multiple cases had been registered against him at various police stations.

Police have not released further details regarding the recovery of weapons or other evidence from the scene, and an investigation into the incident is underway.

SSP Badin praised the injured officers for their bravery and dedication to duty, expressing hope for their speedy recovery.

“The Badin Police will continue to take action against criminal elements in accordance with the law and with complete professionalism to protect the lives and property of the public,” the SSP said in the official statement.

The police reiterated their commitment to continuing operations against organised crime and narcotics-related offences across the district.

The details released so far are based on the police’s version of events. Independent verification of the circumstances surrounding the encounter was not immediately available.
