Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that during Pakistan’s war with India, the leadership of Türkiye stood firmly with Pakistan like a rock, demonstrating the enduring brotherhood and solidarity between the two nations.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad marking Türkiye’s Republic Day, the Prime Minister praised the historic and deep-rooted ties between the two countries, describing them as “relations bound by faith, trust, and shared destiny.” He noted that Türkiye has always extended unwavering support to Pakistan in its most challenging times, and that the relationship continues to strengthen across multiple sectors, including economic, strategic, and defense cooperation.
Highlighting the role of Türkiye during Pakistan’s war with India, Shehbaz Sharif said, “The Turkish leadership stood shoulder to shoulder with us like a rock. Their moral and diplomatic backing gave Pakistan great strength and confidence.” He also expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s consistent support for Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and Palestine, adding that Pakistan, in return, firmly supports Türkiye’s position on Cyprus and other international matters of mutual concern.
Reflecting on the recent conflict with India, the Prime Minister stated that the confrontation lasted four days, during which the Pakistan Armed Forces, under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, effectively defended the country and taught the enemy a “decisive lesson.” He commended the professionalism, courage, and determination of the armed forces in protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Shehbaz Sharif underscored that Pakistan and Türkiye share not just historical and cultural ties but also a common vision for regional peace, prosperity, and stability. He emphasized the importance of further enhancing bilateral trade and defense collaboration through joint ventures, technology exchange, and people-to-people partnerships.
