Lahore: Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced that a total of Rs. 6.39 billion has been disbursed under the Chief Minister’s Flood Rehabilitation Program to support those affected by the devastating floods across the province.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Maryam Aurangzeb stated that under the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), around 90 percent of the flood assessment survey has been completed. The comprehensive survey identified data for approximately 569,000 flood victims, out of which the information of 463,000 individuals has been verified by district commissioners to ensure transparency and accountability.
The senior minister emphasized that the government’s top priority is to guarantee that financial aid reaches deserving families efficiently and without any political interference. She explained that over 98,000 ATM cards have been prepared and distributed to verified victims, each enabling the withdrawal of up to Rs. 300,000 in compensation, depending on the extent of damages suffered.
Maryam Aurangzeb added that the provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is committed to restoring livelihoods, rebuilding damaged infrastructure, and providing long-term rehabilitation support to flood-hit areas. She highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Punjab’s disaster response and resilience mechanisms against future natural calamities.
She also informed the media that the flood rehabilitation process involves multiple departments, including health, housing, and local government, ensuring an integrated and people-centric recovery approach. The minister noted that transparency and digital monitoring are being maintained at every stage to prevent misuse of funds and to make the process auditable.
Maryam Aurangzeb reaffirmed that the provincial administration is working closely with federal authorities and international development partners to mobilize additional resources for infrastructure rebuilding, including damaged roads, bridges, schools, and irrigation systems.
