One Prisoner Dies, Two Hospitalized After Sudden Illness in Adiala Jail

Rawalpindi: A troubling incident occurred at Adiala Jail when three inmates suddenly fell ill, prompting their urgent transfer to a hospital. However, one of the prisoners died on the way, raising concerns about medical facilities and response protocols within the prison system.

According to jail sources, the three inmates complained of severe chest pain and were immediately taken to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to his condition during the transfer.

Sources further revealed that the hospital authorities initially refused to receive the deceased prisoner, stating that he had already passed away before arrival. The deceased inmate had reportedly been arrested in a narcotics case registered at Kallar Syedan Police Station. The remaining two inmates, both facing murder charges, are still under treatment at the cardiac hospital.

The death has triggered questions about medical negligence and delayed emergency response inside Adiala Jail. Prison insiders claimed that the inmates had been complaining of chest pain for hours before they were moved, but the delay in obtaining medical clearance and transport may have proven fatal for one of them.

Family members of the deceased prisoner, upon hearing the news, have demanded a transparent investigation into the incident. “Our brother was not a hardened criminal,” said one relative outside the hospital. “He was serving his time for a drug-related charge. If he had received timely medical attention, he might still be alive.”

Sources within the prison administration stated that an internal inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death and assess whether prison medical officers followed due procedures. The deceased’s body has been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Rawalpindi for a post-mortem examination.
