In a landmark development for healthcare in rural Sindh, the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD) inaugurated its first-ever Chest Pain Unit (CPU) in Sanghar, marking a major step toward accessible and modern cardiac care for thousands of residents in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Civil Hospital Sanghar and was made possible through the persistent efforts of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Member of the National Assembly, Ms. Shazia Atta Marri, whose advocacy for improved health facilities in interior Sindh has played a crucial role in realizing this project.
A New Era of Cardiac Care in Sanghar
The new Chest Pain Unit — the 30th of its kind in Sindh — was formally inaugurated by Dr. Musa Memon, Chief Operating Officer of SICVD, along with Executive Director Dr. Javed Sial, Administrator Khalil Ahmed, Chest Pain Unit Manager Idrees Muhammad Shah, Muhammad Nasir, and Civil Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Aftab Sariwal. The officials jointly cut the ceremonial ribbon, offered prayers, and opened the facility to the public.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Musa Memon emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating:
“This is the 30th Chest Pain Unit established under the SICVD network. It will provide modern cardiac emergency care to patients suffering from heart diseases. Our cardiac specialists and trained staff will be available 24 hours a day to handle emergencies and save lives.”
He added that the new CPU represents the first step toward establishing a full-scale cardiology center in Sanghar, equipped with ECG, echocardiography, angioplasty, stent placement, and cardiac surgery facilities.
