KHAIRPUR (Report) — A resident of Latif Colony in Sobhodero taluka, Ghulam Ali Chano, staged a protest outside the Khairpur Press Club on Monday, accusing a group of influential local people of trying to seize his farmland and subjecting him and his family to physical assaults, threats and attempted abduction. Speaking to reporters, Chano appealed to senior police and district officials to take immediate notice and provide him protection and justice.
Chano told journalists that a number of well-connected individuals — identified as Muhammad Jareel Chano, Mumtaz Ali Chano, Ajeeb Ali Chano, Yaseen Ali, Roshan Chano and others — were pressing claims on his agricultural land and had begun taking coercive measures to intimidate him into surrendering the property. “These powerful men want to take my land by force. They are harassing me and my family,” he said, adding that the campaign of pressure had escalated in recent weeks.
According to Chano, the men not only threatened him repeatedly but also physically assaulted him, fracturing his hand. He said the attackers earlier tried to abduct his eleven-year-old son, Ghulam Murtaza, who is a sixth-grade student. “They beat my son and attempted to abduct him. He is only 11 years old. I fear for his life and for my own safety,” Chano told the assembled reporters, his voice trembling with emotion.
Chano claimed that the accused had also lodged fraudulent claims in local records to justify their alleged seizure of the land and that they were cultivating pressure on neighbouring villagers to support their actions. He alleged that a “pukka decision” — a formal record of ownership or settlement — in favour of the accused was being fraudulently engineered to legitimize the takeover. “They want to manufacture documents and then throw us off our land,” Chano said.
