SUKKUR: Sukkur Electric Power Supply Company (SEPCO) carried out a large-scale operation against electricity theft and defaulting consumers in various parts of the city, disconnecting more than 1,100 illegal and defaulting electricity connections.
According to SEPCO officials, the operation was conducted in Sub-Division One under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner SEPCO Abdul Haq Siyal, SDO Ramzan Malik, and Union Chairman Shujaat Ali Ghumro. The campaign was carried out with the assistance of police and Rangers personnel.
The joint teams raided several areas, including Railway Station Colony, Ayub Gate, TB Ward, Munawar Masjid, Bhangi Para, and surrounding localities. During the operation, officials disconnected illegal hook (kunda) connections, removed electricity supply from defaulting consumers, and confiscated thousands of meters of illegal electrical wiring used for unauthorized connections.
SEPCO also imposed heavy penalties on those found involved in electricity theft. Consumers with outstanding electricity bills had their power supply disconnected and were instructed to clear their dues immediately to have their connections restored.
Speaking on the occasion, SEPCO officials said the crackdown was being conducted on the special directives of the company’s chief to eliminate electricity theft and improve bill recovery.
They reiterated that the campaign against power theft and non-payment of electricity bills would continue without discrimination, warning that no one would be allowed to use electricity illegally. Officials urged consumers to pay their bills on time and obtain legal electricity connections to avoid legal action and financial penalties.
