BHIRIA CITY: Bhiria City Police arrested a woman on charges of possessing gutka and registered a case against her, but a local court later ordered her release after raising objections over the police investigation procedure.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, officers conducted a raid on the Bhiria Road Link Road and arrested Faiza, wife of Kazim Kalhoro, allegedly recovering gutka and betel nut products from her possession. A case, FIR No. 129/2026, was registered against her.
However, when the accused was produced before the Bhiria City court, the judge observed that the investigation had been initiated by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) instead of a Sub-Inspector (SI). The court also noted that the arrest was shown to have taken place in a public area with only police personnel listed as witnesses.
On these procedural grounds, the court ordered the woman’s release after she submitted an undertaking to appear before the court whenever summoned. The police have been directed to submit the investigation report within 15 days.
DSP Bhiria Abrar Sawand confirmed the arrest and said the accused was taken into custody following secret information about her alleged involvement in the sale of narcotics and gutka.
Police further stated that the woman’s brother-in-law, Tasleem Kalhoro, is also facing multiple criminal cases, including charges related to narcotics and stolen mobile phones.
Meanwhile, local residents and civil society members said that if authorities are serious about protecting the younger generation from drugs, cases should be registered and investigated strictly in accordance with the law. They stressed that legal procedures must be properly followed so that action against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade can withstand judicial scrutiny and offenders can be brought to justice.
