KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of violating the code of conduct for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, claiming that the party is misusing government resources during the campaign.
Addressing a press conference after a Sindh cabinet meeting, Memon announced that the provincial government had approved a six-month extension of health insurance coverage for employees of the Governor House and Chief Minister House. He also said that the travel allowance for government employees in Grades 1 to 16 had been increased.
Commenting on the monsoon situation, the minister said heavy rains had severely affected both urban and rural areas of Punjab.
He claimed that 17 people had died in Punjab and 20 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to rain-related incidents, adding that the issue had not received adequate media attention.
Referring to the AJK elections, Memon alleged that the PML-N was violating the election code of conduct, claiming that leaders of the federal and Punjab governments were actively present in Murree and Azad Kashmir during the election campaign.
He expressed confidence that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would win the AJK elections by a comfortable margin.
Criticizing the ruling party, Memon said, “Sitting on the seat of power through a fake mandate is no achievement. The PPP is governing on the basis of a genuine public mandate.”
He further stated that the PPP was not a coalition partner in the federal government, saying the party had extended support only for the sake of democratic stability. He added that a similar offer had previously been made to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Sindh information minister also criticized what he described as unequal infrastructure development, alleging that motorways were being built even at the district level in Punjab, while Sindh had been deprived of motorway projects it rightfully deserved.
