KARACHI: Gold prices in Pakistan witnessed a notable decline on Wednesday, providing some relief to buyers and investors after recent fluctuations in the precious metals market. According to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA), the price of 24-karat gold fell by Rs1,800 per tola, reflecting a downward trend in international bullion prices.

Following the latest reduction, the price of one tola of 24-karat gold now stands at Rs432,036. The decline also affected the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold, which dropped by Rs1,543, bringing the new rate to Rs370,401.

The decrease in domestic prices comes in response to a fall in global gold rates. In the international bullion market, the price of gold declined by $18 per ounce, settling at $4,096 per ounce. International gold prices play a crucial role in determining local rates, as Pakistan largely relies on imported gold and domestic prices are calculated by taking global trends and the exchange rate into account.

International Market Influence

Gold prices across the world are influenced by a range of economic and geopolitical factors, including interest rate expectations, inflation data, currency movements, and investor demand for safe-haven assets.

Market analysts noted that the latest decline in international prices came after investors adjusted their positions amid changing expectations regarding global economic conditions. Whenever confidence in financial markets improves or investors shift towards equities and other higher-yielding assets, demand for gold tends to ease, resulting in lower prices.

Similarly, fluctuations in the value of the US dollar have a direct impact on gold. Since gold is traded globally in dollars, a stronger US currency often puts pressure on bullion prices, while a weaker dollar generally supports higher gold values.

Impact on Pakistan

The decline in gold prices is expected to benefit consumers planning to purchase jewellery, particularly families preparing for weddings and other ceremonial events. Pakistan’s jewellery market traditionally experiences higher demand during the wedding season, when gold purchases increase significantly.

Retail jewellers believe that lower prices could encourage more customers to enter the market after many postponed purchases due to record-high rates witnessed in recent months.

For investors, however, the fall serves as a reminder that gold prices remain subject to continuous changes driven by both domestic and international developments. Many investors consider gold a long-term hedge against inflation and currency depreciation, despite short-term price volatility.

Gold Remains a Safe-Haven Asset

Despite the latest decline, financial experts continue to describe gold as one of the world’s most reliable safe-haven investments. During periods of economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, or financial instability, investors often move their money into gold to preserve wealth.

Over the past few years, global gold prices have experienced significant swings as markets reacted to inflation concerns, central bank policies, armed conflicts, and changes in global trade conditions. These factors continue to influence investor sentiment and bullion demand.

Local Jewellery Market

Gold traders in Karachi’s bullion market said that daily adjustments in prices are common and largely depend on movements in international markets. They added that local demand and the Pakistani rupee’s exchange rate against the US dollar also contribute to final retail prices.

Jewellers advised customers to keep an eye on daily price updates before making major purchases, as bullion rates can change rapidly in response to developments in global financial markets.

Price Summary

According to the latest figures released by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association:

  • Price per tola (24-karat): Rs432,036 (down Rs1,800)
  • Price per 10 grams (24-karat): Rs370,401 (down Rs1,543)
  • International gold price: $4,096 per ounce (down $18)

The latest decline reflects the close connection between Pakistan’s gold market and international bullion trends. Market observers say future price movements will largely depend on developments in the global economy, central bank decisions, inflation outlook, currency fluctuations, and geopolitical events. Buyers and investors are therefore expected to continue monitoring international markets closely before making purchasing or investment decisions.
