Karachi continues to witness a tragic wave of road accidents involving heavy traffic, claiming innocent lives with alarming frequency. In the latest incidents, two people lost their lives and several others were injured in separate collisions involving speeding trucks.
The first deadly crash occurred in Liaquatabad No. 10, where a speeding truck brutally ran over a motorcyclist. According to initial reports, the victim, identified as 55-year-old Sabir, died on the spot due to severe injuries. The shocking nature of the accident enraged nearby residents and commuters, who took to the streets in protest.
Eyewitnesses said that moments after the accident, dozens of furious people began pelting the truck with stones, smashing its windscreen and windows. Some even set the vehicle on fire, venting their anger over what they described as the city’s “uncontrolled heavy traffic menace.” Residents also targeted other heavy vehicles passing through the area, damaging their windshields in an outburst of frustration.
Police officials confirmed the incident and stated that the truck driver managed to flee the scene immediately after the accident. Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation to arrest the driver, while the charred remains of the truck were later removed from the road to restore traffic flow.
Meanwhile, a similar tragedy unfolded near Malir Model Colony, where another truck driver collided with a motorcycle carrying two riders. The impact proved fatal for one of them, while two others sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses from the area described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders rushing to help the victims while others attacked the truck driver in fury. The mob smashed the vehicle’s windows and reportedly assaulted the driver before police arrived to control the situation. The driver was subsequently taken into custody and transferred to the police station for further investigation.
According to residents of both Liaquatabad and Malir, such accidents have become disturbingly common. Despite repeated complaints, heavy traffic continues to enter densely populated residential and commercial areas during daytime hours, often violating traffic restrictions. Locals blame both reckless drivers and the city’s ineffective traffic management system for the recurring tragedies.
Traffic experts note that Karachi’s roads, already choked with congestion, are not designed to accommodate large, overloaded trucks during busy hours. The lack of enforcement and poor urban planning contribute to a rising number of fatalities involving heavy vehicles.
The latest deaths have reignited public anger and renewed calls for strict enforcement of traffic laws. Citizens have urged the Karachi Traffic Police and city administration to impose a complete daytime ban on heavy vehicles in residential areas, ensure proper driver licensing, and hold negligent truck operators accountable.
As investigations continue, the grief-stricken families of the victims mourn their loved ones — yet again highlighting Karachi’s deepening crisis of road safety. Without immediate intervention, the city’s streets may continue to serve as death traps for its commuters.
