SANAA: Yemen’s Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, has announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, escalating tensions in the region.
In a statement, an Ansar Allah spokesperson said the group was declaring a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, describing the move as a response to what it called the Saudi-led blockade imposed on Yemen.
The spokesperson stated that the decision was taken in retaliation for Saudi measures against Yemen but did not provide further operational details regarding the blockade.
Rising Tensions
The announcement comes days after the Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport and vowed to respond.
Following those allegations, the Houthis launched missile attacks toward Saudi Arabia, which Saudi authorities said were successfully intercepted.
Regional Concerns
The latest development adds to growing regional tensions and raises concerns over the security of maritime routes in the Red Sea and surrounding waters.
Previously, Reuters reported that attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis on Saudi Arabia had caused concern in Pakistan. According to the report, Pakistani officials conveyed to Iran that Saudi Arabia is a “red line” for Pakistan and that any attack on the Kingdom would be viewed as an attack on Pakistan.
Pakistan has also previously condemned attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warning that such actions could further undermine peace and stability across the region.
