KARACHI: Police investigating the fatal shooting of Dr Akash during a robbery near Teen Talwar, Clifton, say the arrested suspects have allegedly confessed to involvement in other street crimes, including robberies targeting people outside banks.
According to investigators, three suspects arrested in connection with the July 13 robbery and murder case—identified as Aslam alias Baba, Ram Chand, and Anil—are currently being questioned.
Investigative officials said the suspects told police during preliminary interrogation that the gang was allegedly led by Aslam alias Baba, and that its members are residents of Qaidabad in Karachi.
The suspects also allegedly stated that a woman was among those involved in the robbery in which Dr Akash was shot and killed, alongside other members of the gang.
During the investigation, police said it emerged that the suspects were also allegedly involved in snatching cash from people outside banks and robbing traders.
Earlier, DIG South Asad Raza had announced that the suspects allegedly involved in the robbery and killing of Dr Akash had been arrested.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the statements attributed to the suspects are part of the police inquiry. The allegations will be subject to further investigation and judicial proceedings. No court has yet determined the suspects’ guilt.
