DRAMMEN, Norway: More than 100 homes have been destroyed after a major fire broke out in the Norwegian city of Drammen, according to international media reports.
The blaze spread rapidly, fueled by strong winds, which also caused the fire to engulf a nearby forest, making firefighting efforts more difficult.
Emergency services responded swiftly after the fire was reported. Firefighters, supported by more than 60 volunteers and helicopters, have been working continuously to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading further.
Authorities said hundreds of residents have been evacuated to safe locations as a precaution. Despite the extensive damage to homes and surrounding areas, no fatalities have been reported so far.
Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire. An investigation has been launched to establish how the blaze started.
Emergency crews remain at the scene, and firefighting operations are continuing as authorities monitor weather conditions and assess the full extent of the damage.
