KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall in several parts of the country over the next few days, while warning of possible landslides in northern mountainous areas.
According to the PMD, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously penetrating the upper and central parts of Pakistan, with their intensity expected to increase further on Saturday and Sunday.
The department also said a western weather system is expected to enter the country’s northern regions on Monday, enhancing rainfall activity.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, thunderstorms and rain are forecast from July 18 to 25, while Gilgit-Baltistan is also expected to receive widespread rainfall with thunder during the same period.
The PMD said various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience rain between July 19 and 23. Similar weather conditions are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, and several other cities across Punjab.
In Balochistan, rainfall has been forecast for Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Loralai, Sibi, and Ziarat.
The weather department has also warned of a risk of landslides in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir from July 20 to 25, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions.
Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid, although rain is likely in Tharparkar, Mithi, Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad between July 20 and 22.
For Karachi and other coastal areas of Sindh, the PMD forecasts partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light drizzle over the next three days. Strong winds are also expected in Karachi on Saturday and Sunday.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public, travelers, and local authorities to remain updated on weather forecasts, particularly in areas vulnerable to flash floods and landslides, as the monsoon system continues to strengthen across the country.
