PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Abdul Ghani Afridi has written to Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, expressing serious concerns over the alleged political and administrative interference of the chief minister’s brother, Naveed Afridi, in PK-71, a constituency in Khyber District.
The lawmaker also shared the letter on his social media account on X (formerly Twitter), outlining allegations that Naveed Afridi has been organizing and patronizing public forums, commonly referred to as open courts (khuli kachehris), within the constituency.
According to the letter, officials from various government departments are allegedly being pressured to attend these gatherings, while those who fail to participate are reportedly threatened with transfers.
Abdul Ghani Afridi claimed that the alleged interference has undermined his political standing as the elected representative of the constituency. He stated that he had previously raised the matter with the chief minister on several occasions and had also conveyed his concerns through Provincial Minister Meena Khan Afridi, but no effective action had been taken.
The MPA further questioned the role of the district administration and certain government officials, alleging that they had failed to prevent or address the reported interference.
In his letter, Abdul Ghani Afridi urged Chief Minister Suhail Afridi to take immediate notice of the allegations, order a transparent inquiry, and ensure appropriate action against those found responsible.
He also warned that if the situation remains unresolved, he would consider pursuing further legal and political avenues.
The allegations have been made by the PTI lawmaker in his letter and social media post. At the time of reporting, there has been no official response from Chief Minister Suhail Afridi or Naveed Afridi regarding the claims.
