The Sukkur Police, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Azhar Khan, has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the city’s business community for the resolution of civic problems, maintenance of law and order, and creation of a safe environment for business activities.
A significant meeting was held at the SSP Office Sukkur with the office-bearers of the All Sukkur Traders Union. The delegation included Union President Mir Abdul Rehman Mengal, Chairman Mehboob Sehto, Shabbir Memon, and several other senior members and representatives. The meeting was marked by constructive dialogue and the exchange of ideas on issues directly impacting traders and the broader community of Sukkur.
Traders Highlight City’s Challenges
During the meeting, the trader representatives presented a detailed overview of the challenges faced by the business community. These included concerns related to market security, traffic management in commercial areas, petty street crimes, and the need for improved coordination between police stations and local traders. They emphasized that an atmosphere of safety and stability is essential for the smooth continuation of business operations and for the encouragement of new investments in the city.
The traders also requested prompt attention to specific areas where security issues have been observed, particularly during evening business hours. They called for stronger surveillance and patrolling in marketplaces, more efficient dispute-resolution mechanisms, and stricter measures to counter rising incidents of theft and harassment.
SSP Azhar Khan Responds
Responding to the concerns, SSP Sukkur Azhar Khan assured the delegation that Sukkur Police recognizes the pivotal role of the business community in strengthening the national economy. He reiterated that the police department is fully committed to addressing the issues faced by traders and to extending all possible legal support.
“The business community is the backbone of the country’s economy. Their contribution to economic growth and stability is undeniable,” said SSP Azhar Khan. “Sukkur Police will ensure that traders receive immediate assistance from relevant police stations. Orders have been issued to all concerned officers to prioritize their problems and provide quick relief.”
He further highlighted the importance of partnership, stating that police cannot achieve their goals in isolation. “Without the cooperation of citizens and traders, the police cannot succeed in maintaining peace and order. Therefore, through community policing, we aim to establish closer and stronger ties with the business community,” he remarked.
Towards a Structured Mechanism
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to design a structured mechanism of cooperation between traders and the police. The SSP suggested creating joint committees comprising trader representatives and police officials. These committees would serve as communication bridges to ensure timely reporting of issues, better coordination, and swift responses to any emerging threats.
By setting up such a system, the police and traders hope to restore an atmosphere of mutual trust. It would also ensure that Sukkur’s citizens can pursue their livelihoods and businesses in a secure environment. The SSP expressed confidence that through such collaboration, not only would law and order be improved, but public confidence in law enforcement agencies would also grow stronger.
Commitment from the Traders
The All Sukkur Traders Union expressed satisfaction over the SSP’s assurances and praised his proactive approach. Union President Mir Abdul Rehman Mengal emphasized that the traders’ community is ready to extend unconditional cooperation to the police. “We fully stand by Sukkur Police in their mission to safeguard the city. We will provide all possible support whenever required,” he said.
Chairman Mehboob Sehto added that the business community is fully aware of the challenges faced by law enforcement in today’s environment and that traders are determined to play their role in promoting peace and stability. He stated that with the joint efforts of police and traders, Sukkur can become an exemplary city in Sindh for safety and commercial vibrancy.
Broader Vision of Sukkur Police
The SSP concluded the meeting by sharing his broader vision of police-trader collaboration. He noted that modern policing must go beyond traditional law enforcement and focus on community engagement. “Our goal is not only to fight crime but also to build trust, resolve grievances at the grassroots, and create a harmonious relationship between citizens, traders, and police,” he said.
He also mentioned that Sukkur Police will soon launch awareness campaigns, strengthen market surveillance, and encourage community watch initiatives in partnership with local business leaders. These steps, according to the SSP, will ensure a safer, more peaceful environment for trade, which in turn will contribute to the city’s economic development.
Conclusion
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism about the future of Sukkur’s business climate. The partnership between Sukkur Police and the All Sukkur Traders Union is expected to lay the foundation for long-term improvements in security, law enforcement responsiveness, and overall economic activity in the region.
The Sukkur Police spokesperson stated that such meetings will be held regularly to review progress, identify new challenges, and ensure that commitments made to the trader community are fulfilled in a transparent and effective manner.
