Ankara: US President Donald Trump said he believes the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran has effectively come to an end, adding that he is no longer interested in negotiating a new agreement with Tehran.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the NATO Secretary General in Ankara, Trump addressed questions on a range of international issues, including Iran and Greenland.
“I think the memorandum of understanding with Iran is over,” Trump said, suggesting that the previous arrangement between Washington and Tehran is no longer in effect.
“I Don’t Want to Make a Deal with Iran”
Trump said he does not wish to pursue further negotiations with Iran.
“I don’t want to make a deal with the Iranians,” he told reporters, adding that he had no intention of spending more time trying to reach an agreement with Tehran.
The US president also claimed that the ceasefire with Iran had ended, though he did not provide additional details regarding the circumstances or timing of its conclusion.
Remarks on Iran’s Nuclear Program
Commenting on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Trump asserted that if Iran possessed nuclear weapons, it would use them.
He reiterated his administration’s hardline stance on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities, saying he did not believe further negotiations would be productive.
Comments on NATO
Trump also said he was not satisfied with NATO regarding issues related to Greenland and Iran, although he did not elaborate on the specific reasons for his criticism during the media interaction.
His remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran over regional security, sanctions, and nuclear issues.
No immediate response from Iranian officials to Trump’s latest comments was reported at the time of his remarks. The status of any previous understandings or agreements between the two countries may depend on subsequent official statements and diplomatic developments.
