KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has reacted with humor to false reports circulating on social media claiming that he had died, urging people not to believe fake news.

The legendary fast bowler, widely known as the “Sultan of Swing,” shared a video on his official Instagram account to dismiss the rumours.

“People Are Asking If I’m Alive”

In the video, Akram said he hoped everyone was doing well before addressing the viral misinformation.

He remarked that for the past several days, fabricated reports about his death had been spreading online and questioned why people continue to fall for such false claims despite living in an age where misinformation is common.

Referring to the messages he had received, Akram joked:

“Salute to those people who messaged me asking, ‘Are you alive?’”

He then added sarcastically:

“No, I’m making this video after dying.”

Criticizes Fake Content Creators

The former Pakistan captain also criticized those responsible for creating and sharing fabricated videos using the names of well-known cricketers.

He said producing such fake content must have required considerable effort and suggested that the same creativity and intelligence could be put to better use in productive work.

Message Against Misinformation

Akram concluded his remarks by quoting a well-known Punjabi proverb, saying that merely carrying books does not make a donkey a scholar, emphasizing that learning requires understanding and that even copying something successfully requires intelligence.

His comments come amid a rise in false celebrity death hoaxes circulating on social media platforms, prompting public figures to issue clarifications through their official accounts.

Wasim Akram remains one of Pakistan’s greatest cricketers, having represented the national team for nearly two decades and earning worldwide recognition as one of the finest fast bowlers in the history of the game.
