Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday chaired a meeting to discuss guidelines for setting up universities and higher education institutions in Pakistan.

During the meeting the committee looked at a draft plan for the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Regulatory Framework 2026. This plan is about setting up and accrediting education institutions in Pakistan. Officials from ministries, the HEC and other stakeholders shared their thoughts on the policy. 

The committee appreciated the HEC’s efforts in preparing the draft and recommended further improvements in certain areas.

Ishaq Dar told the HEC to include the committee suggestions before sending the revised draft to the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for approval. The framework will then go to the cabinet for final review.
Ishaq Dar said the government is committed to quality education and wants to improve Pakistan’s education system. He said ensuring excellence, transparency and following international best practices are top priorities. 

The meeting had ministers for law, education and inter-provincial coordination along with Special Assistant, to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, federal secretaries and other senior officials.
