GHOTKI: The campaign to administer booster doses to children in the riverine areas of Ghotki and Ubauro is continuing, with the district administration and the World Health Organization (WHO) reviewing the progress and arrangements of the ongoing immunization drive.
A meeting was held between Deputy Commissioner Ghotki Manzoor Ahmed and WHO Sindh Team Leader Charles to discuss the ongoing campaign in the riverine areas of Ghotki and Ubauro. The meeting reviewed the progress of the vaccination campaign, field arrangements and measures being taken to ensure that children receive their booster doses within the scheduled period.
WHO Provincial Polio Officer Dr Sandeep Kumar, WHO Area Coordinator Sukkur Division Dr Jameel Ahmed, District Health Officer Dr Rao Aftab, WHO representative Dr Niaz Ahmed and NSTOP Officer Dr Zaheer Domki also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the WHO delegation, Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Ahmed said the district administration was closely monitoring the booster-dose campaign being conducted in 10 union councils of Ubauro and Ghotki.
He said health teams had been mobilized to ensure that children receive their protective vaccinations on time. All necessary measures were being taken to achieve the targets set for the campaign, particularly in areas where access remains challenging.
The deputy commissioner said awareness activities and seminars had also been organized at different locations to educate parents about the importance of vaccination and encourage them to cooperate with health teams working in the field.
He said the booster-dose campaign was progressing successfully and directed the relevant officers and health teams to complete the assigned targets within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the district administration, the performance of vaccination teams and overall progress of the campaign are being regularly reviewed across all relevant union councils, including the riverine areas.
WHO Sindh Team Leader Charles said the primary purpose of his visit was to assess the booster-dose campaign in Ghotki’s riverine areas and obtain information about the challenges and requirements faced by teams working in the field.
He said the WHO was providing full cooperation to the health department and district administration to make the campaign successful. He added that wherever logistical or other requirements arise during the campaign, the WHO would provide all possible assistance.
Charles emphasized that close coordination among the WHO, health department and district administration was essential to ensure that children receive their booster doses and that the campaign targets are achieved within the निर्धारित period.
The riverine areas of Ghotki and Ubauro present particular logistical challenges for vaccination teams because of difficult access and scattered settlements. Regular monitoring and coordination between administrative and health authorities are therefore important for reaching children in these areas.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue joint efforts to ensure effective vaccination coverage and protect children from preventable diseases.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Ahmed presented members of the WHO delegation with traditional Sindhi Ajraks as gifts, symbolizing the cultural heritage and hospitality of Sindh.
