Previously, users in the #FilmTok and #MovieTok communities could discuss and promote films, but buying tickets often required visiting separate websites. The new feature streamlines this process by adding a “Get Tickets” button alongside relevant content, allowing users to watch trailers, read reviews, and book seats at local cinemas—all in a seamless experience.
The feature is powered through TikTok Spotlight and is based on internal research showing the platform’s influence on moviegoers. According to TikTok Marketing Science (October 2023), nearly 50% of U.S. users discovered new theater releases on TikTok, and 36% expressed a desire for a more integrated ticketing option.
By enabling ticket purchases directly within the app, TikTok removes the need for users to navigate external websites. Movie studios have long relied on TikTok for promotions, and past studies indicate a strong correlation between TikTok campaigns and ticket sales.
