Why a Green Dot Appears on Android Phone Screens

Android smartphones are widely used around the world as affordable alternatives to Apple iPhones, without compromising much on features. If you’ve noticed a small green dot appearing in the upper right corner of your Android phone screen, you might have wondered what it means.

This green dot is actually an important privacy and security feature introduced in Android 12 and included in all later versions of the operating system. Its main purpose is to indicate when an app is accessing your camera or microphone.

For example, if you open apps like YouTube, Facebook, or other media applications that might record or stream video or audio, this green dot will appear in the top corner of your screen. It serves as a clear indicator to users that your device’s camera or microphone is active.

If the green dot appears without any apparent reason, it could indicate that a suspicious app or spyware is trying to access your camera or microphone, and in such cases, it’s advisable to check your installed apps and remove any unfamiliar or malicious software.

Importantly, this feature cannot be disabled, ensuring users are always aware of apps accessing sensitive hardware. By providing this transparency, Android helps protect users’ privacy and prevents unauthorized recording or spying.
