Islamabad: Four independent candidates who secured victories in the recent Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections have officially joined the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), strengthening the party’s presence in the region.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Federal Minister Aleem Khan, where the newly elected members formally declared their affiliation with the party.
Newly Joined Members
The four elected independents who joined IPP are:
- Muhammad Dilpazir – GBA-15 Diamer
- Aman Ali – GBA-21 Ghizer III
- Anwar Ali – GBA-23 Ghanche
- Asad Shafiq – GBA-24 Ghanche III
Their inclusion is expected to enhance IPP’s position in the newly elected Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
Formation of a Political Group
Speaking after the announcement, Muhammad Dilpazir said that all four independent candidates had formed a group before deciding to join IPP collectively.
He added that they are also in contact with other independent legislators as well as members of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and hope to expand their political alliance in the coming days.
Aim to Become a Major Force
Dilpazir stated that efforts would continue to encourage other elected representatives to join the party.
According to him, the group’s objective is to strengthen IPP’s position in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and emerge as one of the leading political forces in the region.
“We will invite other independent candidates to join the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and aim to become the second-largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly,” he said.
Political Significance
The move comes at a time when political parties are actively negotiating alliances and support arrangements following the election results. The addition of four elected members could influence future coalition-building efforts and the balance of power within the assembly.
Conclusion
The decision by four successful independent candidates to join the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party marks an important development in Gilgit-Baltistan’s post-election political landscape. With plans to attract more lawmakers, IPP appears determined to expand its influence and play a significant role in the formation of the region’s political future.
