Paris: US President Donald Trump has said that the Iran agreement has entered its second phase and that Washington is seeking access to Iran’s enriched uranium.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, Trump made the remarks during a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, praising Doha’s role in managing regional diplomatic efforts.
“Fair Deal” with Iran
Trump stated that the United States believes a “fair deal” has been reached with Iran, though he clarified that Washington does not plan to invest directly in the country.
He also expressed satisfaction with Qatar’s diplomatic handling of the negotiations.
Focus on Nuclear Restrictions
Reiterating Washington’s core position, Trump said the most important objective of the agreement is to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.
He added that under the deal:
- Iran will be prevented from developing nuclear weapons
- The agreement has entered a second phase of implementation
- The US seeks access to Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile
Strong Warning to Iran
Trump issued a stern warning, stating that if Iran attempts to pursue nuclear weapons, it would face severe consequences.
“If Iran tries to obtain nuclear weapons, it will be destroyed,” he said.
Conclusion
The remarks highlight the continued focus of US policy on limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities while signaling that the agreement process is still evolving into a new phase involving technical and strategic arrangements around enriched uranium.
