Islamabad/Gilgit: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed confidence over the party’s performance in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections, stating that the PPP is emerging as the largest political force in the region and will make efforts to form the next government.

Reacting to the unofficial and preliminary election results, Bilawal Bhutto shared a statement on social media platform X, saying that there was a “rain of arrows” in Gilgit-Baltistan, referring to the PPP’s electoral symbol. He said the results indicate strong public support for the party and demonstrate growing confidence in its political vision.

“Pakistan Peoples Party is emerging as the largest party in Gilgit-Baltistan. We will try to form the government,” Bilawal stated, while also thanking voters for their trust and support.

PPP Leads in Early Results

According to the latest unofficial and unconfirmed results available so far, outcomes from 12 of the 24 general seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have been completed.

The preliminary results show that:

  • Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won 7 seats
  • Independent candidates have secured 3 seats
  • Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won 1 seat
  • Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has won 1 seat

These early results place the PPP in a commanding position compared to its political rivals.

Constituencies Won by PPP

According to unofficial tallies, PPP candidates have secured victories in the following constituencies:

  • GBA-4
  • GBA-5
  • GBA-7
  • GBA-9
  • GBA-10
  • GBA-11
  • GBA-19

Meanwhile:

  • PML-N won constituency GBA-22
  • MWM secured victory in GBA-8
  • Independent candidates won GBA-3, GBA-23, and GBA-24

Election officials have emphasized that these results remain unofficial until formally verified and announced through the appropriate legal process.

Government Formation Possibilities

With half of the assembly seats still awaiting final results, political observers believe the race remains open. However, the PPP’s strong early showing has strengthened its position in potential coalition negotiations and government formation discussions.

Since no party is guaranteed an outright majority at this stage, independent candidates could play an important role in determining who ultimately forms the government. Political parties are expected to begin outreach efforts to successful independents once the complete results become available.

Bilawal Bhutto’s statement reflects the PPP’s confidence that it can secure enough support inside the assembly to lead the next regional government.

Importance of the Gilgit-Baltistan Elections

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections are considered highly significant because the region occupies a strategic position and plays an important role in Pakistan’s political, economic, and developmental planning.

Major national parties, including PPP, PML-N, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), religious parties, and a large number of independent candidates, contested the elections. More than 400 candidates competed for the 24 general seats, while nearly one million registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots.

Authorities implemented extensive security measures across the region to ensure peaceful polling, with police, Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, and other law enforcement personnel deployed at sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations.

Political Significance for PPP

A strong performance in Gilgit-Baltistan would provide an important political boost for the PPP and its leadership. The party has historically maintained a presence in the region and has sought to expand its influence through development initiatives and political engagement.

If the PPP succeeds in forming the government, it could strengthen Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s position on the national political stage while enhancing the party’s role in regional governance.

As vote counting continues and additional results emerge, attention remains focused on whether the PPP can maintain its lead and secure the alliances necessary to form the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan.
