Karachi: Sindh Police has announced that approximately 40,000 vehicles have been blacklisted under the Karachi Safe City Project as part of a broader effort to improve vehicle registration compliance, strengthen law enforcement, and enhance public safety across the city.
According to police officials, strict action against the blacklisted vehicles will begin on July 1, and owners have been advised to verify their vehicle status immediately and resolve any outstanding issues before the enforcement campaign starts.
Why Have 40,000 Vehicles Been Blacklisted?
Sindh Police stated that the blacklisted vehicles primarily fall into several categories involving incomplete ownership records and regulatory violations.
One of the largest groups includes vehicles that have been sold to new owners but were never officially transferred in government records. Although ownership changed in practice, the registration details remained in the name of the previous owner, creating legal and security concerns.
Officials explained that such vehicles often create difficulties during criminal investigations, traffic violations, and accident cases because the registered owner and the actual user of the vehicle are not the same person.
In addition, authorities have blacklisted vehicles whose ownership records are incomplete or contain discrepancies. Vehicles with missing documentation or unresolved registration issues have also been included in the list.
Another category includes vehicles whose owners have failed to clear government dues, taxes, penalties, or other mandatory obligations. Authorities believe that ensuring compliance with these requirements is essential for maintaining an accurate and reliable vehicle database.
