KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has firmly stated that not even an inch of Hill Park land has been handed over to any private party, reiterating that the park remains the property of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and will continue to do so.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the mayor said that Hill Park has always been under KMC ownership and there is no question of transferring or allocating its land to anyone. He emphasized that the administration is committed to protecting public property and will not allow any encroachment on municipal land.

Murtaza Wahab also highlighted the performance of the city administration during Eid-ul-Azha, stating that a total of 81,525 tons of animal waste was brought to landfill sites during the sacrificial days. He added that under the sanitation drive, 88,436 tons of animal waste and garbage were properly collected and disposed of across Karachi.

Responding to recent statements made by MQM leaders in their press conference, the mayor criticized what he called “politics based on carcasses and remains,” saying such narratives have historically caused damage to Karachi’s development and governance. He urged political stakeholders to focus on constructive issues rather than creating unnecessary controversy over municipal matters.

Reiterating his stance on Hill Park, he said, “Hill Park is, was, and will remain KMC property,” adding that the civic body will continue to safeguard all public parks and recreational spaces from illegal occupation or misuse.

The remarks come amid ongoing debate and questions surrounding alleged encroachments and construction activity near the Hill Park area, with different parties presenting contrasting claims about land ownership and regulatory approvals. Authorities maintain that any illegal activity on public land will be dealt with strictly under the law.
