Lahore: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 around airports and airbases across the province in an effort to ensure flight safety and protect human lives and property.
According to the Punjab Home Department, restrictions have been enforced around all airbases and airports in the province, including commercial airports.
Under the new orders, activities such as pigeon flying, use of laser lights, and throwing animal waste or meat remnants in surrounding areas have been banned.
Officials stated that these activities pose serious threats to aviation safety and can interfere with flight operations.
The notification issued by the Home Department said the decision was taken to improve security measures and minimize risks to aircraft and passengers.
Authorities noted that pigeon flying near airports can attract birds into flight paths, increasing the risk of bird strikes, which can be dangerous for aircraft during takeoff and landing.
Similarly, laser lights directed toward aircraft can distract pilots and potentially compromise safe flight operations.
The ban on throwing animal remains and waste is also intended to prevent the gathering of birds and stray animals near airports and airbases.
According to the notification, the restrictions will remain in effect for 30 days throughout Punjab.
The Home Department clarified that the orders apply not only to military airbases but also to commercial airport zones across the province.
Officials emphasized that strict action may be taken against individuals violating the restrictions under relevant laws.
Security experts say such precautionary measures are commonly adopted around sensitive aviation facilities to ensure operational safety and prevent avoidable hazards.
The decision comes amid growing concerns regarding aviation safety and the need to secure strategic installations and public transport infrastructure.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with the administration and avoid engaging in restricted activities near airport areas.
Law enforcement agencies and local administrations have reportedly been directed to monitor implementation of the restrictions and ensure compliance.
Section 144 is a legal provision frequently used by provincial administrations in Pakistan to prohibit certain activities in the interest of public safety, law and order, and security.
The Punjab government said the measures are preventive in nature and aimed solely at safeguarding flight operations and public security.
Residents living near airports and airbases have been advised to remain informed about the restrictions to avoid legal action or penalties.
Officials added that ensuring aviation safety is a shared responsibility and public cooperation is essential for preventing accidents and operational disruptions.
