Users of X, formerly known as Twitter, who are not paying for the platform’s premium subscription service will now face a major restriction on daily posting activity.
According to reports, X has quietly introduced a new limitation for free users as part of efforts to encourage more people to subscribe to its paid monthly plans.
Under the updated policy, users without a blue verification badge will only be allowed to make up to 50 posts per day and a maximum of 200 replies daily.
The change has already been implemented and is now reflected on the X Help Center page.
Previously, free users were reportedly able to post up to 2,400 times per day, making the new restriction a significant reduction in posting freedom for non-paying accounts.
With the new system in place, users attempting to post beyond the 50-post limit will reportedly receive an error message preventing further activity.
Industry observers believe the move is part of X owner Elon Musk’s broader strategy to increase subscription revenue and push more users toward paid membership options.
The company may also be aiming to reduce spam content, automated bot activity, and excessive low-quality posting on the platform.
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X, the platform has introduced several major changes, including paid verification, subscription-based features, reduced moderation teams, and monetization tools for creators.
The blue verification badge, once reserved for verified public figures and organizations, is now largely tied to paid subscriptions through the X Premium service.
Critics argue that stricter limits on free users could discourage casual participation and reduce user engagement, while supporters believe the restrictions may help improve content quality and reduce spam.
Social media analysts say the success of the policy will depend on whether users are willing to pay monthly fees for expanded posting privileges and additional platform features.
