WASHINGTON: White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly has said that US President Donald Trump will make the necessary decisions if Iran does not engage in negotiations in good faith regarding its nuclear program and regional tensions.
In her statement, Anna Kelly reiterated President Trump’s longstanding position that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
“President Trump has repeatedly made it clear that Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon,” she said.
The White House official stated that Iran is currently facing significant military, economic, and diplomatic pressure and has become more isolated internationally than before.
According to Kelly, the US president has all options available when it comes to dealing with Iran and protecting American national security interests.
She warned that if Iran fails to participate sincerely in diplomatic efforts, President Trump would take whatever decisions are necessary to safeguard US security and strategic objectives.
“President Trump has very clearly defined his red lines,” Kelly stated, adding that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains at the center of those red lines.
She further said that if Iran refuses to accept those conditions, the United States could consider taking strong measures.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing international concern regarding Iran’s nuclear activities and regional influence.
In recent days, diplomatic activity has intensified following reports that a planned US military strike against Iran was temporarily postponed to allow negotiations and regional mediation efforts to continue.
Several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, have reportedly encouraged Washington to prioritize diplomacy and avoid military escalation in the region.
Analysts say the current situation reflects a delicate balance between diplomatic engagement and the possibility of stronger US action if negotiations fail.
The United States and Iran have remained at odds for years over Tehran’s nuclear program, sanctions, regional security issues, and military activities involving allied groups in the Middle East.
Western countries, particularly the United States, have long accused Iran of pursuing capabilities that could lead to the development of nuclear weapons, while Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is intended for peaceful civilian purposes.
International observers warn that any further escalation between the United States and Iran could have serious consequences for regional stability, global energy markets, and international security.
The White House statement is expected to further intensify diplomatic discussions as global powers continue efforts to prevent a broader conflict in the Middle East.
