SUKKUR (Danish Rajput): The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Sukkur has strongly condemned the Point of Sale (POS) policy implemented by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), expressing serious concerns over its implications for doctors and private healthcare institutions. The association has welcomed the announcement of a nationwide boycott of Outpatient Departments (OPDs) in public and private hospitals on November 1 and 2.
According to details, PMA Central Secretary General Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Shoro held several meetings and negotiations with senior FBR officials in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Gujrat, Quetta, Peshawar, Islamabad and other cities to address doctors’ concerns regarding the POS policy. However, no significant progress was achieved through these negotiations.
Despite setting October 29 as the final deadline, no positive outcome emerged. In view of the situation, PMA Central has supported the decision to keep OPDs closed in public and private hospitals across the country on November 1 and 2 in protest against the FBR’s POS policy.
However, medical services, including treatment and medicines for admitted patients and those arriving in emergencies, will continue without interruption.
Meanwhile, PMA Sukkur has called an emergency meeting on Saturday, October 31, at 11:00 am at PMA House Sukkur to discuss the issue and formulate its future course of action.
Senior PMA Sukkur representatives stated that doctors across the country have serious reservations about the policy and their concerns must be addressed on a priority basis. They emphasized that the association would make every effort to resolve the concerns of doctors and private healthcare centres through meaningful consultation and ensure that their legitimate demands are heard.
They further stated that all relevant stakeholders must be taken into confidence and consulted before implementing any taxation or digital monitoring policy that could affect healthcare institutions.
Meanwhile, members of civil society and citizens have also expressed support for the doctors’ concerns, stating that doctors play a vital role in serving society and their reservations regarding taxation policies must be taken seriously.
Citizens urged the FBR and medical representatives to resolve the POS policy issue through negotiations and mutual consultation.
