RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed nine militants in two intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Kachhi and Wadh districts on October 26, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations targeted members of what it described as the Indian-sponsored militant group Fitna Al Hindustan, a term used by Pakistani authorities to refer to all militant groups and organisations operating in Balochistan.

In its statement, the ISPR said seven militants were killed during an operation in Kachhi district, where security forces busted a hideout following reports of the presence of militants.

The operation involved an intense exchange of fire, and security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the site, the statement said.

In a separate operation in Wadh district, security forces tracked and intercepted the movement of militants. Two were killed following an exchange of fire, while weapons and ammunition were also recovered, according to the ISPR.

The ISPR said sanitisation operations were underway to locate any other militants in the area.

It added that the counterterrorism campaign under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam vision, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue to target what it described as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.

President, PM laud security forces

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq praised security forces for killing nine suspected militants in operations in Balochistan’s Kachhi and Wadh districts.

In separate statements, the leaders commended the security forces’ professional capabilities and efforts to eliminate militant hideouts and counter terrorism in the province.

President Zardari said the conspiracies of foreign sponsors of terrorism and their local facilitators would be foiled. He added that the nation stood alongside security forces and law enforcement agencies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the fight against terrorism would continue until the menace was completely eliminated from the country. He praised the efforts of security forces and law enforcement agencies to eradicate terrorism and establish lasting peace.

“Terrorists who seek to undermine Pakistan’s security and peace will never succeed in their nefarious designs,” the prime minister said, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also praised the security forces’ professionalism and courage. He said their achievements reflected the country’s commitment to protecting national security and added that the nation stood firmly behind them in the fight against terrorism.

On October 23, security forces killed 10 militants, including a woman, during clearance operations in Gwadar following attacks in the port city and near the Gabd Border Crossing, according to ISPR.

One civilian was killed and several vehicles were damaged in the attacks. No security personnel were martyred during the operations, it added.

The ISPR said the suspected militants belonged to Fitna Al Hindustan.

Balochistan’s security challenges

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, is rich in natural resources but remains the country’s least developed province. It shares borders with Iran and Afghanistan and has faced a decades-long separatist insurgency that has intensified in recent years, posing a persistent security challenge for Pakistan.

Separatist groups accuse the federal government of exploiting Balochistan’s natural resources while directing the benefits of development towards other parts of the country. Islamabad rejects the allegations and says it is working to improve living conditions, expand development and uplift local communities in the province.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of backing militant groups operating in Balochistan and Afghanistan of allowing its territory to be used for attacks in Pakistan’s western border regions. New Delhi and Kabul deny the allegations.
